Junior Week Junior Week is the final week of our month-long Camp Concern session. It is for campers ages 8-10.
Steve Bies, from the Holiday Park Church of Christ in Plum, PA, began serving as director of Junior Week for the 2005 session. Mark Hatfield, from the Whitehall Church of Christ, serves as his assistant director.
About Junior Week...
Because of the younger ages of the campers, Junior Week operates with a much busier schedule than the other weeks of Camp Concern. Campers participate in Bible classes in the morning, which usually feature a Bible drama of the story for that day’s class. Teachers work hard to prepare lessons, crafts and applications for this exciting time. Each evening, campers participate in a Bible Bowl with questions from the lesson studied.
A favorite part of the Junior Week day for many of the campers is the afternoon trip to the pool. A bus driver drives campers and counselors to a hotel in Weirton where campers spend nearly an hour cooling off in the pool. While the boys are swimming, the girls participate in various team and individual sports competitions and vice versa. Trophies and ribbons are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in these competitions.
The canteen is open during the afternoon and evening, when campers can purchase soda, candy, flavored water and more.
Our “artiste in residence” runs the Craft Hall in the afternoons where campers can make a variety of fun crafts. Campers are assigned a counselor for their cabins in their villages. These cabin counselors help the campers get ready in the morning and at night, as well as help them study for Bible Bowl and even take them to the bathroom late at night. Cabin counselors also help campers pick out and perform a skit for our Thursday night skits.
We hope the week is a lot of fun for campers, but our prayer for Junior Week is that we show the love of God to the children whom God puts in our hands.
